One of the most obvious trees that you will see in and around Vanuatu is of course the Coconut Palm Tree, with heaps of Coconuts hanging down from the top, just ready to drop onto your head if you happen to be unlucky enough to be strolling underneath at the time.
Port Villa, capital of Vanuatu, is literally surrounded by these sticks with large leaves.

When in the capital Port Villa have a refreshing Vanuatu Bitter in the Office Pub.
Lots of ex pat Aussies frequent this bar and it is a haunt for the local populace as well.
They have special 'Concert' nights where you will see Tina Turner, Rolling Stones, Kylie Mynogue on stage, 'live' on satellite TV!
Great fun. Don't expect an early night.

Now, when you're looking for transport around Port Villa or the main island of Vanuatu you will be in for a treat. Urvans or similar constantly cruise the countryside. Hail them from the side of the road and they will stop and let you in. For about $A1 you will eventually get to your destination via villages, villages, and more villages. Don't be in a hurry. Great way to see the sights!

Don't worry, this is not a local taxi driver, I mean to say, this would scare young children and dogs!
It's a mate I stayed with during my trip to Vanuatu. He drove around in an old beach buggy, usually without a muffler (the buggy, that is) and you, and the locals, could hear it coming for miles!
Martin was good value and showed us around a fair bit, and more . . . pity he didn't have a watch!
